NEWS: •Mike Taylor will have one of his jewelry boxes featured in a Sears Craftsman tools commercial. •Linda Cheek won the $300 second place award at the Toe Rive Arts Council Paintout in Burnsville on May 30, 2009. •Peggy Taylor was filmed by "Southern Living Magazine" for a small piece on the Arts in Asheville. Mike Taylor is an accomplished woodworker skilled in the art of marquetry, a technique of inlaying pictures made from exotic woods into wood. He is also widely known for the oil and pastel pochade boxes he makes for plein air painting. PHTaylor, a colorful oil and pastel impressionist plein-air painter who works in both regular size and miniature is a student of the Cape Cod School of Art. She devotes her time to painting local landscape and still-life. Linda Cheek, locally known as one of the best landscape painters in Western North Carolina, uses heavy brush stokes to make her point. She has often been called "a painter's painter." Her impressionist works can be found in collections all over the Southeatern USA.
